1. MCA CODE COMPLIANCE EXAMINATIONS - MCA SMALL VESSEL SAFETY CODES (Note: MGN280(M) is not yet a statutory Code)
Commercial Pleasure Craft & Workboat Initial Compliance Examinations by authorized examiners for the SCMS as Certification Authority. NB SCMS Fees additional.
Annual checks and periodic surveillance,
Completion of relevant SCMS Forms SCV2/SWB2, Pt.II and summary report.
2. GENERAL CONDITION SURVEYS.
Condition Survey, with prioritized Summary of Recommendations (for obtaining yard estimates).
The condition survey is a comprehensive overview of the vessel's condition under about 40 headings. This includes the superficial survey of propulsion and auxiliary machinery, mast from deck level (if stepped) and any sails presented, without any opening up. It is designed to give a professional opinion for a prospective owner, and an assessment of the risk to his insurance underwriters. Each heading and any Recommended Actions are categorized. The surveyor will try and call the client after the survey for a summary and debriefing.

Private & Commercial Pleasure Craft: £35/m to 24 metres Length Overall.
Workboats: £39/m to 24 metres Length Overall.
Valuation Opinion at no additional cost, if requested with condition survey.
Superficial survey and vessel valuation opinion: fee, £175.
Fuel and oil sampling and analysis additional; prices on application according to requirement.
Noise and emissions measurements by quotation.
3. PREPARATION FOR GENERAL CONDITION SURVEYS & INITIAL CODE EXAMINATIONS:
Vessel docked or hauled out clear of high water, safely shored, scrubbed off, cleared of extraneous gear, anchor and chain cable ranged; ladder or access platform available, removable access covers loose.
Documents required; SSR certificate or Pt.1 register; alternatively, proof of ownership.
Code Examination documents (additional): Operating and Maintenance manuals, Safety equipment certificates, charts, navigational publications, stability information and Skipper's licences.
NOTE, Mositure Readings on GRP hulls using the Tramex meter:
To obtain a reasonably accurate measurement of hull moisture, and hence underwater hull condition, the hull must have been out of the water for a minimum of 4 to 5 days before survey; the longer the better. If this is not possible, the report will be qualified.
4. STABILITY ASSESSMENT BY INCLINING:
Simplified Inclining, if a Class certificate or acceptable equivalent, cannot be produced at a Code compliance examination.
Vessel to be moored in still water, weights or human ballast provided, 75 kg/person plus 325kg for personal equipment (dive boats only).
All tanks 95% full; watertight compartments and bilges pumped out and dry as practicable.
Instruction and Record sheet annexed to SCV2 or SWB2 report, available on request, or from SCMS Head Office.
FEES: Simplified, for Monohull vessels up to 15 metres LOA, carrying up to 14 persons; inclining experiment and SCMS report form (annexed to SCV2/SWB2): Workboats and Commercial pleasure craft: £150.
Full Inclining and provision of intact and damaged stability book (using MAST4 software) for Category 0, 1 and workboats carrying over 1 tonne (1000kg) of cargo.
FEES: By quotation at hourly rates, according to loccation, availability of lines plan, facilities and relevant vessel data.
5. INTERIM EXAMINATIONS, CORRECTIVE ACTION VERIFICATION, ANNUAL & MID-LIFE SURVEILLANCE, MACHINERY SURVEYS, SEA TRIALS, DAMAGE & REPAIR SURVEYS etc:
Based on a rate of £75 per hour, minimum 2 hours.
6. NAVAL ARCHITECTURE, STABILITY BOOKS, MARINE ENGINEERING & PROPULSION; EXPERT ADVICE & REPORTS TO CPR 35 REQUIREMENTS
Based on hourly rate of £80; estimates and fixed price quotations on request for clearly briefed or specified requirements.
7. Travel: (private car): 40p per mile to and from Eastleigh. Ferry and parking additional at cost.
Overseas travel; prices on application related to urgency.
8. VAT: Charged additional on all fees and costs at rate applicable at tax point, (From 1st January 2010 all vessel fees <15m LOA @ 17.5%; commercial vessels >15m @ zero rate). VAT rate remains at 15% until 31 December 2009.
9. REQUEST FOR SERVICES: All services provided are subject to completion and return of our standard Request for Services form in hard copy; (an insurance requirement). 10. Terms of business: Account clients; 30 days nett. Non-account clients: proforma invoices will be sent with acknowledgement and must be paid in full by the date of survey.
11. Discounts: Available for Members of the Royal Naval Sailing Association and the Professional Boatmans' Association on survey and compliance examination fees.
