Naval first career sub-specialising in gas turbine development at NGTE; sea service included managing prototype OLYMPUS engine and Centrax CHP system in frigate HMS EXMOUTH, including Arctic trials. In charge of MOD(N) propulsion controls trials. Studied general management at Henley prior to second career as consultant in maintenance management, then managing director of engineering and design contractor before starting the practice.

Air direction officer of fleet carrier HMS ARK ROYAL, (54,000 tons), Captain of 2 frigates and staff of MOD's Chief of Defence Staff. Saw build-up of Portsmouth ferry terminal as Deputy Queen's Harbour Master for 5 years. Pilotage specialist with Hydrographer of The Navy and examiner for Nautical Institute Harbourmaster's Certificate.

John Hall, RCNC.

Principal Naval Architect.
Close involvement in many warship design projects with MOD(N), including HUNT Class grp mine countermeasures vessels and producing Type 22 frigate hull form. Appointments included Fleet Naval Constructor Officer, 1978-1981 and after 1982 South Atlantic war. Most recently with DERA, Haslar; design development of propellers and leader of surface ship hydrodynamics group developing and testing trimaran hull for RV TRITON.

Inspections and Trials Manager; Quality Assurance Manager.
Marine Engineer Officer of 3 frigates, member of acceptance trials unit before joining Fleet Engineering Staff. Retired from gas turbine development at NGTE to Snamprogetti's quality department, subsequently engineering and quality consultant to product manufacturer.

Michael Lake, BSc(Eng), CEng, EurEng, MRAeS, MIMechE.

Aviation, Air Weapons & Aeronautical Engineering Consultant.
Graduated from the Empire Test Pilot's School with subsequent squadron service in Fleet Air Arm then charge of technical development and evaluation of EH101 MERLIN helicopter programme; Fleet Magager of Royal Naval SEAKING helicopters, service in MOD; MBA at Bath University prior to entering consultancy.

Richard Langman, BSc(Eng), CEng, FIMarEST, FIMechE.

Practice Engineering Manager and Marine Surveyor.
Head of propulsion transmission in MOD(N) and Deputy Superintendent at DRA, Haslar, with 2 alternating appointments as Chief of gas turbine destroyer, (out of builders yard), and steam turbine frigate. Second career as Senior Superintendent, Royal Hong Kong Police Marine Region with £30m procurement, maintenance and training budget for over 100 vessels and craft. Joined Robert Barnes & Co, 1995.

Nigel Locke, CEng, MIMechE, FIMarEST, FSaReS

Principal Reliability Consultant.
MEO of COSAG frigate and destroyer, with 2 periods in MOD(N) propulsion controls, one responsible for acceptance trials. HM Diplomatic staff in Canada, then 5 years secretary of MOD(N) Material Advisory Board and reliability advisor to Sea Systems Controller, and member of BSI Reliability sub-committee. Founder and committee member of Safety and Reliability Society. Extensivie reliabilty consultancy since 1985.

Richard Maylin, DFH, CEng, FIEE, FIMinE, FIMgt.

Principal Electrical Engineer.
National service, in destroyers before joining English Electric as contracts enginer. Subsequent overseas government service in Nigeria, Cameroons and Iraq, then Resident with Kennedy & Donkin in Jordan. Project Engineer with CEGB, Technical Manager, Dubai, retiring from Electricity Council into consultancy for private practices and Crown Agents.

David Sherwin, MSc, PhD, CEng, FIMechE, MIQA, FRStatSoc.

Principal Consultant in Terotechnology.
Recently retired as Professor of Terotechnology, Lund University; and at Department of mathematics, statistics and computer science, Vaxjo, Sweden.
Sea service in aircraft carriers and cruisers. Early application of reliability to Polaris submarine refit planning and new maintenance strategy development with SUIST leading to commercial research and teaching at Birmingham University for 10 years, then 3 years at Queensland University as professor. Internationally acknowledged expert with many published papers. Author, with P R Bossche of Availability, Reliability & Maintenance of Productive Systems, Chapman & Hall, 1995.

Michael Trounce, CEng, FIMarEST, FIMechE.

Principal Marine and Mechanical Engineer.
Forward Design Group in MOD(N), later Assistant Director of large warship propulsion projects, including HMS INVINCIBLE Class. Professor of Marine Engineering at Greenwich and Chief of fleet carrier HMS ARK ROYAL, (54,000 tons), retiring as Superintendent, DRA, (then AMEE), Haslar. Senior consultant with S.S.Stevenson and Partners for 6 years. Joined AESEP in 1983.

Proprietor: Select Office Services of Chichester, (SOS).
Juliet was previously in medical administration and acquired SOS from Amanda Pickering, one of the founders, in 1996. She is ably assisted by Rita, Tizzie and Caroline.
SOS have looked after our secretarial needs since 1980, and are very much part of the team. They hold the fort when the Eastleigh office is unoccupied and the telephones are diverted. They also hold our quality manuals and procedures.
