  On 26th January 1771, Josiah Barnes, (Robert's great-great-great grandfather) started his 7 year apprenticeship with Joseph Bradbury forging pocket knife blades, a strong family tradition in engineering, (7 generations); and later medecine, (4 generations - see Dr John Morrison Barnes CBE, Dictionary of National Biography, Vol. 1970-1980). These two great professions have been united in the family for over 100 years.

  
  

• 1. The Engineer Defined.

  
  A person who with his training and experience is able with foresight to conceive, design and produce artefacts that will improve the material state of society.

  "The great liability of the Engineer, compared to men of other professions, is that his works are out in the open where all can see them.
  His acts, step by step, are in hard substance.
  He cannot bury his mistakes in the grave, like the doctors.
  He cannot argue them into thin air, or blame the judge, like the lawyer.
  He cannot, like the politicians, screen his shortages by blaming his opponents and hope the people will forget.
  The Engineer simply cannot deny he did it. If his works do not work, He is damned....."

  To maintain the highest standard of product possible in all work we do for clients.
  With all projects, to follow the principles, apply and practice the general procedures specified in ISO 9000 series of standards.

  
  We establish a customised quality plan for appropriate projects, to ISO 10005:1995.

  
  As potential clients, you will be very welcome to look at our procedure manuals, discuss and review our system before and during a project.
