ROBERT BARNES & Co.

We are independently and regularly assessed by the Energy Institute and appointed to deliver:

*Carbon Trust Products for reducing commercial and industrial carbon dioxide emissions

The Carbon Trust provides free and subsidized independent reports on the energy efficient and environmental aspects of commercial and industrial buildings. The budget has been increased for 2004/05 as the result of being able to demonstrate quantified success in reducing carbon emissions to the Treasury.

Eligibility:

The type and amount of assistance depends upon the organization's annual expenditure on energy.

1. OPPORTUNITIES ASSESSMENTS, GENERAL & SPECIAL:

These cover all aspects of the organization's energy use and cost, including water. conservation. They range from 2 or 3 days to 10 days consultancy, paid for by the Government, to provide a standard format report of about 30 pages, containing an Action Plan, with forecast savings quantified as far as possible; and recommended references of related industry or technology publications.

2. DESIGN ADVICE:

The Interim Report is a one day overview of a new or refurbishment building project, providing a standard format report of environmental and energy features and recommendations, if appropriate.

The Follow-On Report can assess specific recommendations in the Initial Report.

The Design Advice product is currently being revized and updated. The new product should be on the market this autumn. The clear emphasis on building requirements in the South East, and the forthcoming new sections in the Building Regulations, make this a valuable product for architects and developers.

Planning Applications:
Local planning authorities in the Solent area have been aware of the Design Advice Service. In the near future, it is likely that the Government will enable Local Authorities to require Design Advice reports on all significant developments as part of the planning procedure. SI 2000 No. 896 already requires planning officers to provide Best Value indicators for applications approved, from 2001.

3. SPECIALIST ADVICE:

Our considerable experience qualifies us to offer specialist advice in combined heat and power systems (cogeneration), CHP, and refrigeration and chilled water plant. CHP is one of the most important methods of reducing both energy and cost of energy; and one of the follow-on products offered by the Carbon Trust.

4. APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Either call The CARBON TRUST helpline direct on 0800 664959 to discuss and register your project, or visit www.thecarbontrust.co.uk/energy. Alternatively, call us and we can provide the application forms for you to register electronically through the internet.

5. M & E ENGINEERING SERVICES:

With over 20 years experience, we can provide you with the full range of consultancy services for your projects; normally at competitive commercial consultany fee rates under standard ACE agreements. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss and quote you for projects of capital value up to about £100,000.

Terms of business for Carbon Trust (CT) products: you contract direct with CT for standard fully funded products. CT issue us with an order to carry out the work within a timescale usually of about 30 days. For assisted consultancy, we prepare a proposal for submission to CT. When and if approved, you then contract with us direct; and with CT to claim the subsidy.
